Letters to Seven Churches of St. Paul In every message to every church, there is something that applies to all churches of all ages, and there is a message to you personally. There are seven different periods in the history of the church. Ephesus represents the apostolic church; Laodicea represents the apostate church.  The Letters of St. Paul are addressed to the angel of every church.

The Seven Churches of Asia Minor mentioned in the Book of Revelation are Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.

Ephesus Church ;

The Church of Ephesus is known as Loveles church
Ephesus is the city of Ionia with a population of 250 thousand, where St. Paul wrote his letters to the Ephesians and the Evangelist St. John brought the Virgin Mary to spend her last years.

Smyrna Church ;

The Church of Smyrna that Remains Faithful to Jesus Amidst Persecution. In the city where Jewish are the majority, it is stated that the Romans persecuted the Christians because of the slander and accusations of the Jews against the Christians.

Pergamon Church: 

The Church of Pergamon is known as The Compromising Church.
Pergamum served as the capital of the Roman province of Asia Minor and was an important religious center for several pagan cults. The Book of Acts makes no mention of the founding of this church. A polytheistic pagan culture surrounded the church in Pergamon.

Thyatira Church:

The Church of Thyatira is Known as the church that followed the false prophets.
The people in the Akhisar district were rich and interested in trade. People would follow a false prophet and be led astray. Just like people today fall victim to the false religious teachings of some cult leaders

Sardis Church:

The Church of Sardis is known as the Spiritually Dead or sleeping church
In Revelation, our Lord accuses the Church of Sardis and the congregation of standing dead even though they appear "alive." He warns the community to "wake up", repent, and be of good moral character.

Philadelphia Church:

The Church of Philadelphia: The Faithful Church That Endures Patiently Despite Weaknesses. Philadelphia was living in a synagogue community hostile to Christians. Christ praises the Philadelphia church for the faithfulness of his believers despite their weakness.

Laodicea Church:

The Church of Laodicea means the Church of Warm Faith.
Laodicea, located 10 km from Pamukkale, was the center of industry, agriculture, and trade. Laodicean people were rich. In the letter Jesus wrote to the church of Laodicea, he immediately accuses the congregation of his lukewarm faith. He blames the congregation by "spitting" it out of his mouth.  Christ rebukes this church for allowing the people of Laodicea to go spiritually bankrupt because of their economic prosperity. He explains that even if they are economically prosperous, they can provide spiritual wealth.
