In the 19th century, most of the Ashkenazi Jews in Istanbul were practicing the profession of tailoring. Schneidertempel was one of the three synagogues founded by Ashkenazlar in Galata. The German word "schneider" means "tailor" in Turkish. For these reasons, the synagogue known as the Tailors Synagogue is called "Beth ha Kenesseth Tofre Begadim".
It was founded on 8 September 1894 by the Ashkenaz Tailors Association. In this structure, which is in the name of queue, the shopkeepers of the period, especially the tailors, were worshiping. The synagogue continued its religious function until the 1960s, but since 1964 the community population was diminished and closed.
The building was converted into an art center in 1996. The Bank, located between Banker Street and Felek Street, is a typical example of 19th century eclectic architecture.
